Twas the day after Boxing Day at the Ale House in Grafton on Thursday, as the much talked about Quiz Wheel, aka the QUEEL, made it's Quizmaster debut on the evening...

And there were some very tasty questions (and by "tasty" we mean really really hard) on the night, as well as free stuff up for grabs on the QUEEL....

Most people had to just finish their beer, or glass of wine!!

And the great seasonal fun continues with Quizmaster Ryan receiving yet another gift (plus one for his pet pug) from one of the fantastic quiz regulars!!

Thanks Samantha!!

And after a brutal QUEEL bonus round, which was pretty much all guess work, twas the gang from This is the last time in 2012 we will be forced to come up with a crappy team name that walked out with a Christmas treat and first place...

Yes, their team name was crappy ---- their score not so bad!

Second spot went to relative newbies from Curiosity always leads me to Uranus, who actually benefited from the bonus round on the night...

Nice job gang! We're glad one team got to reap the benefit of the giant QUEEL!

And finally, given the festive moisture still in the air, the crew from Daddy... I saw Santa get eggnog on Mommie's face! took away the best team name prize, after a mixture of laughs and gasps following the reading...

They posed with the wheel, as they also won $10 from it on their spin!! QUEEL of misfortune, me thinks not!?!

VOA's Family Relief Nursery is our next recipient

To contact us Click HERE
The next donation for the Holiday Fare project is 15 books of tickets to VOA's Family Relief Nursery.

Here's how Katie from FRN describes the need:
The Family Relief Nursery is an intervention/prevention program for families with children six weeks to five years old. We work to strengthen fragile families at serious risk of abusing or neglecting their children or of permanently losing custody of their children. The Nursery offers a holistic, positive intervention with both children and parents. All services are provided at no charge to families. The FRN now serves up to 90 families per year.

One of the barriers our families face is transportation. We do have a small school bus that picks kids up and drops them off each day, but the bus can only accommodate so many children. Many times a family will remain on our waitlist until a bus and a classroom spot are both open. When possible, we do provide bus tickets to our families so they can utilize public transportation to bring their children to and from FRN. As well, bus tickets are especially helpful when we have Family Nights or Open Houses at FRN. For parents whose kids are picked up by the FRN bus (and do not have a car themselves) they often never get to see where their kids go each day. The Family Nights and Open Houses are a time when the parents can come by and see the site and meet their children’s teachers (we do home visiting as well with most of our families, so they are intimately involved with our interventionists otherwise). Bus tickets are also sometimes used to allow our families to go out to VOA’s resale store, so they can pick up clothing or other items for their children (we provide them with vouchers for the resale store).

In the past, we have been able to provide bus tickets to our families, as needed. Unfortunately this year, we with downturn in the economy, one of our funders had us cut our budget by 4.5% and another funder cut our budget by 12%. In order to maintain our level of services, and because the State requires us to have so much direct service personnel per child, one of the things we had to cut this year was direct client assistance funds, which includes items like bus tickets.

Sorry for the long quote, but I couldn't find anything to leave out. Again, the need is so great. I wish we could give more to this program and all the others that we've helped so far. The only way we can do that is if more of you donate. Here's how!

Please spread the word and post this link everywhere, including those things where you make a sign out of a piece of printer paper and then let people tear little pieces off the bottom. :) Facebook, Twitter, and blanketing everyone in the world with emails works, too! Thanks!

Applying technology, job portals have come to the rescue. Due togrowth of Information Technology (IT) sector in the new millennium, people wereaware mainly of these IT job portals, but there exist a portal for everypossible type of job. Here are some of those portals which made finding jobseasy on the Internet.
http://naukri.comhttp://shine.comhttp://monster.comhttp://timesjobs.comhttp://clickjobs.com Provides an opportunity to post resume for jobs across different industries / sectors and designations. Most of them started with the IT job opportunities but expanded to all other domains. Each of them must be having millions of resumes in the repository. These portals also offer simple services like resume development, provide information about different professions and salary level validation.
http://babajob.com If you are looking for a maid, driver , cook or cashier, this is the specialized portal to visit.  There is a provision of police verification and health insurance check of job seekers, for the benefit of employers, through their service. Their mission seems to create a positive impact to the 'bottom of the pyramid'.
http://freshersworld.com Candidates fresh out of a college, especially from tier-2 and lower always find it difficult to seek a job.  Recruitment in the campus is not meant for all colleges and even that does not go smooth sometimes. This portal provides an exclusive service to show job opportunities for such freshers, who are ready to conquer the world.
http://govtjobsdaily.com Securing a government job  was the norm with previous generation in India, after gaining a good academic record. If one is interested in such government jobs, this portal seems to provide good help.

I believe there would be lot many specialized job sites in India. The job seekers get to register on these sites for free; the job portals drawtheir revenues from the employers. It's a win-win situation for all theinvolved parties.
E-Commerce in India has blossomed with onlinetravel business to start with. After that, online classifieds, especially matrimonyand job portals, flourished pretty much. I wonder if all those folks who got ajob through any of these job portals take a moment to admire the technologybehind the scenes for their success and happiness !

We've been warning you but this is your final reminder that registration for Quizmaster Cup VIII is open and is this Sunday at 1pm!

They said they're saving their A-game for Sunday, and surely a favorite to win the "BOX OF BRITISHNESS" for best dressed team!

And finally on the night, following the winter Olympics question, twas the aptly named Always flaccid in Lake Placid that took away a pleasing win for best name...

Article of the Week - The Transit of Venus

To contact us Click HERE

A transit of Venus across the Sun takes place when the planet Venus passes directly between the Sun and Earth (or another planet), becoming visible against (and hence obscuring a small portion of) the solar disk.

During a transit, Venus can be seen from Earth as a small black disk moving across the face of the Sun. The duration of such transits is usually measured in hours (the transit of 2012 lasted 6 hours and 40 minutes). A transit is similar to a solar eclipse by the Moon. While the diameter of Venus is more than 3 times that of the Moon, Venus appears smaller, and travels more slowly across the face of the Sun, because it is much farther away from Earth.

Transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena.

The last transit of Venus was on 5 and 6 June 2012, and was the last Venus transit of the 21st century; the prior transit took place on 8 June 2004. The previous pair of transits were in December 1874 and December 1882. The next transits of Venus will be December 10–11, 2117, and in December 2125.

Quizmaster Ryan was certainly living the high life at the Ale House quiz in Grafton on Thursday night. After years of slugging away with the choice of either standing or sitting on a regular-person's wooden chair during quiz, the Ale House had finally given into his demands of a couch (aka a "seti" as it's called in the U.K.).

And so the quiz was perhaps the comfiest ever!...

It certainly could have been put to use a few weeks earlier when the QM was fresh from knee surgery!

Anyway, we would put the couch to much better use later on in the quiz...

Elsewhere on the night, newcomers from Sanduskys Kids took the Quizmaster's disclaimer of "no team name is off limits" to heart, and notched up the $10 prize for best name...

Quizmaster virgins on the night - we hope we weren't too rough with them and that they come back for more next time!

Like we mentioned earlier, the couch (which doesn't pull out - how sad) was put to use, as the top team had their picture with the host - in a celebratory mood himself, as he was able to drink for the first time in over a month...

Yep, the Suck IT Trebek crew recorded another victory.

But they weren't the only ones to "accidentally" squeeze the Quizmaster's bum when he was sitting on them. Not to be outdone, the night's runners-up, Half a beer gets me thinking about my Tinky Winky and your Po, jumped on the Seti too, and got snapped up...

Lovely jubbly!

Don't forget we take a break on November 22nd, so America can say thank you, but never fear quiz night is back the following Thursday night! See you all then!

Article of the Week - White House Christmas Tree

To contact us Click HERE

The White House Christmas Tree, also known as the Blue Room Christmas Tree, is the official indoor Christmas tree at the residence of the President of the United States, the White House. The first indoor Christmas tree was installed in the White House sometime in the 19th century (there are varying claims as to the exact year) and since 1961 the tree has had a themed motif at the discretion of the First Lady of the United States.

Depending on which sources are consulted, the White House never had a Christmas tree until the 1850s or 1889. There are two claims to the "first" genuine White House Christmas tree. President Franklin Pierce is said to have had the first indoor Christmas tree at the White House during the 1850s, variously reported as 1853 or 1856. Others claim the first tree was during President Benjamin Harrison's administration (either in 1888, 1889, or 1891). First Lady Caroline Harrison helped decorate the tree, which was installed in the second floor oval parlor today's Yellow Oval Room. There is an 1880 reference to [President Tyler] in the 1840s hosting a children's party at which there was a Christmas tree with gifts

The White House Christmas tree is selected from various growers nationwide. Growers in the state of North Carolina have provided 11 trees, more than any other state. The states of Washington and Wisconsin, as of 2011, share the second highest total of trees provided for the White House with seven. The White House Christmas tree has been displayed in the Blue Room many times since 1961. It has also occasionally been displayed in the Entrance Hall.

We've been warning you but this is your final reminder that registration for Quizmaster Cup VIII is open and is this Sunday at 1pm!

It was bustlin' once again at the upstairs of the Grafton Ale House for Thursday night trivia. All the regular troops came out in full force too, although we had some newcomers as well, notably the gang from Tammy BaldWIN or go home..

They finished on a score of 36 points, but we hope to see their smiling little faces back next time.

Elsewhere, top of the standings saw the crew from Count Chocula has his hands all over my Pikachu rack up an all-important victory ahead of this Sunday's Quizmaster Cup, which will be their first...

They were rivaled on the night by the Suck It Trebek (who will also be at the Cup and dressed to impress in their most royal attire), although this team only managed second spot after a sudden death showdown...

They said they're saving their A-game for Sunday, and surely a favorite to win the "BOX OF BRITISHNESS" for best dressed team!

And finally on the night, following the winter Olympics question, twas the aptly named Always flaccid in Lake Placid that took away a pleasing win for best name...

Good stuff indeed.

The show rolls on again next Thursday with an interesting Toys and Games bonus round. Be there!

Until next time Grafton, drink while you think...

So, what does it mean if my couch doesn't pull out? No quiz on Thanksgiving.

Until next time Grafton, drink while you think...
